My Dream
My Dream
Before I started at Boston College, I had an idea in what direction I wanted to go in terms of my profession. I was sure I wanted to go into the field of education, and I am still sure that’s what I want to do. I also knew I wanted to be a counselor in a high school, and I am still aiming for that as well. Though, I was considering stopping there. However, an old friend of the family told me I should go for my Doctorates degree. I started to think about this more and more and the opportunities that came with this education. In addition to this, I began working in the First Year Experience office here at BC, where their primary goal is to facilitate students’ transition from high school to college. They also do a lot of counseling for students, and being around this I have seen how helpful this is for the students.
I have always known that I wanted to work with the youth, particularly adolescents, but my dream now is to work in the college setting. I know through experience the struggles we go through in college. I also feel as though my experience as a Mexican-American in a predominantly white college can give insight to a different kind experience. I hope some day I could help freshmen as a reputable school like Boston College.
